Cameras
Anyone know of such a thing? when using my zoom lens (canon sx40 hs, advanced point and shoot with built in lens 24-840mm) the camera will not focus. It will only focus at the 24mm wide angle.
My birding days are no more!
I took a drive up Pacific Coast Highway 1 today. Lots of wind and thus lots of ‘wind surfers’. I wanted to see the HD video quality on my new Canon SX40 so I took a short video of some of the surfers. Looks like fun to me! :O) Turn the sound down on your computer – you can hear the wind really whipping through the cam’s mic.
This weekend we hosted a birthday party for our friend Katy, author of The Food Tarot, a Guide to Intuitional Eating. It gave me the perfect chance to try out my new camera that I talked about in my post on the Canon SX40 HS. I took all the photos on ‘auto’ setting. I have yet to learn to program :O) That will mostly come after I have attend the Morro Photo Expo at the end of this month. Click on the image thumbnails to maximize the image and then scroll through all of them. Let me know what you think!
Well I did it! I finally bought a new camera. I talked to a wonderful, knowledgeable woman in San Luis Obispo, California at the Photoshop – Peggy (and many people online). She told me not to spend the money on a DSLR after I told her my interests were wildlife, landscape and active children. She had me test the Nikon D5100 DSLR against the Canon SX40 HS. I shot an orange tree across the street from the shop with both. No comparison. The Canon won hands down at half the price. I also viewed pics she had on her MAC of both cameras: nature and wildlife pics. Again, the Canon really stood out. Granted it has it’s downsides compared to the Nikon D5100 I was looking into, but overall I’m very happy with my purchase. Just right for this novice and my current needs. Now I’m ready to roll.

I’ve been playing around with Adobe Lightroom – a wonderful program, I really like it. A tool I might choose to use as part of my arsenal in the artistic photographic process. In doing so I realized the ‘development’ of photos is quite an art in and of itself – just as much so as is ‘capturing’ that perfect image through a lens.
Reminds me of the great Alfred Stieglitz , a seminal influence in the art of photography and in ‘the arts’ in general during the first decade of our century. Through his photography he was able to change the way many see and experience their world. He made a lasting change on the world of art and opened the way for many a photographer to take their seat at the ‘Artist’s Table’.
Alfred’s wife, Georgia O’Keeffe was no small influence in the world of art. As most of America is all to familiar with her work at Ghost Ranch. Alfred loved to photograph Georgia. Below is some of his work from the early 1920’s – one word – Brilliant!
I’m looking to buy my first DSLR camera. I’m just a beginner living in paradise with so many photographic opportunities that I’d like to have a better camera (currently I own a Canon point and shoot) to take advantage of them. I found some on my local Craigslist and was hoping some of you might take a look at this initial list and see what you think. Any feedback or advice? Maybe a recommendation of something not on the list?
Thank you for any input you are willing to spare. Pics are below this list. If you mouse over the pic you will see the identification.
